Chemotherapy Induced Sore Mouth Mucositis – Cut Pain in Half with Topical Ketamine

Must be horrible to have a sore mouth with chemotherapy – ketamine  20 mg/5ml used four times daily reduced pain from 6 to 3 within days.

• 5 ml bottle of ketamine 100 mg/ml diluted to 20 mg/5ml with normal saline
•  swish and spit 4 times daily
• gargling allowed but no swallowing
• no eating or drinking for 30 min after
• rest pain dropped from 6/10 t0  3 after 3 days
• pain swallowing dropped from 9/10 to 4 after 3 days
• sleep improved
• opioid use dropped
