in the Animal model if animal sleep deprived ( Not fragmented sleep though) , they animals become more sensitive to noxious stimuli. Yet sleep would restore things and Caffeine would also reduce pain reaction.

A nap a day keeps the pain away?
Alexandre, Chloe, et al.
Decreased alertness due to sleep loss increases pain sensitivity in mice.
Nature Medicine 23.6 (2017): 768-774.
- mice were kept awake with stimulating activity
- in this sleep deprived situation were more sensitive to “noxious stimuli”
- a nap relieved this
- Ibuprofen had no effect on the pain, but caffeine reduced it.
Comment – apparently this does not work in those not rested because they had frequent wakenings (fragmented sleep). However if shift work or whatever is keeping you up, then a nap or coffee might help you through it all.
