Achilles Mid-belly Tendonitis Could Be Plantaris Muscle Rupture

Pain in midportion achilles tendon medially could be a Plantaris muscle rupture. Eccentric exercises for Achilles tendonitis will not help.

  • Pain is in the MEDIAL side of achilles tendon belly
  • Pain worse with running uphill
  • eccentric heel drops do not help and any worsening with such suggests this is the problem
  • Ultrasound might identify it
  • restricting pronation helps
  • Injection of local WITHOUT steroid might give long lasting relief
  • Surgical removal is a last resort but effective
