Mice who are not physically active develop “exercise-induced muscle pain by reducing phosphorylation of the NR1 subunit of the NMDA receptor in the central nervous system.” – ie the pain circuits are hyperacute (or less protected depending on which way you look at it). An inactive lifestyle, in susceptible people, may doom them to chronic pain.

Regular physical activity prevents development of chronic pain and activation of central neurons.

- Chronic muscle pains were induced by repeated injections of acidic saline.
- This chronic response was prevented by regular exercise
- Mechanism appeared to be NMDA receptor blockade by reduced phosphorylation of the NR1 subunit of the NMDA receptor.
It has been known that NMDA -NR1 receptor modulates pain behaviour:
Pain. 2010 Oct;151(1):155-61.
Changes in expression of NMDA-NR1 receptor subunits in the rostral ventromedial medulla modulate pain behaviors.

I often wondered what waws responsible for the “mufflers” “normal” people have to modulate pain – now it looks like th NMDA-NRi receptor subunits are in part responsible for this but they are gimped by phosphorylation that occurs with lack of exercise.
Comment – makes a compelling argument for exercise – sign, here comes some new years resolutions pandora pas cher pandora pas cher
