Two approaches to gallbladder advanced testing – use of fatty meal (FM) as a substitute for cholecystokinin (CCK) in pain reproduction during hepato-imino-diacetic acid (HIDA) scan in functional gallbladder disorder. – will miss 1/2 of cases

HIDA scan for functional gallbladder disorder: ensure that you know how the scan was done.
Goussous N et al
https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/28381385
- HIDA scan – 70 received CCK and 83 fatty meal
- Pain reproduction in 30% fatty meal and 61% CCK p<0.01
- no difference in demographic factors or pain – ie you can’t tell who will fail
Comment – there is always the urge to cut costs and a fatty meal is not an adequate test so do what the article said “ensure you know how the scan was done”
