  • can cause remodeling bone – so see bulgings in CT

Causes include

  • chronic infection
  • allergic rhinitis
  • trauma
  • prior surgery
  • prior radiotherapy
  • ?

Investigate with CT paranasal simuses

Symptoms: – cheek pain most common; can even include cheek numbness

Treatment –

  • Surgical – Caldwell-Luc op – but annoying numbness face and cheek edema
  • Better – drain cyst then Endoscopic marsupialize the mucocele

Comment – it is tempting to just give antibiotics for cheek pains but the definitive treatment is surgery.
