Kidney Stone – Renal Colic – Ketoralac and Nifedipine Superior to Ketoralac and Tamsulosin

Spanish journal which I do not get but results seem clear enough – ketoralac 60 mg ?IM and Nifedipine XL 30 mg by mouth give best results.

  • Lower utereric stone
  • Ketorolac (used to be called Toradol) could be 30-60 mg IM with 60 mg being as effective as opioid injection:
Am J Emerg Med. 1999 Jan;17(1):6-10.Efficacy of ketorolac tromethamine versus meperidine in the ED treatment of acute renal colic. Larkin GL
  • Nifedipine (Adalat – a blood pressure drug) is often 30 mg in long acting form
  • “the pain decreased more in patients managed with ketorolac and nifedipine, p = 0.0041. There were no complications nor side effects in both treatments.”

Comment – going to make that my mix now though oral ketorolac is a problem for stomach…
