Morphine Does Not Facilitate Breast Cancer in Animal Model

Frequent concern is whether meds someone is taking is making their cancer worse. In the animal model, morphine does not help breast cancer.

  • 2 studies have suggested morphine near time of surgery is associated with increased relapse.  (one in breast, one in prostate ca)
  • 5 studies, including one prostate, failed to confirm it
  • all above are retrospective studies so not that good; several prospective are being done now.
  • at least in the animal model it had no effect in breast cancer
