New Fibromyalgia Scoring Self – Questionnaire

The new Fibromyalgia criteria are confusing and so I put together a self- questionnaire that might simplify things for people.

Adapted from :
Curr Opin Anaesthesiol. 2011 Jul 27. In press. ] Fibromyalgia: a primer for the anesthesia community. Brummett CM, Clauw DJv   abstract here

1)      Painful areas – Count up to max of 9 points – you want to see widespread pain – especially in 3/4 quadrants

2)      Each of 3 symptoms goes from 0-3 – max count 9

Symptoms count – Max count  3 allowed (note – must use judgment where symptoms overlap) – I also wonder about counting fatigue twice… and muscle pains in first and last question – and then brain fog and concentration problems in separate questions

Pains for over 3 months and a score above 13 is consistent with fibromyalgia

I made this up as a WORD 97 file that could be printed:

Addendum: For counting pain regions, though not an exact match for regions used above, is a  SLAP (sum of painful areas) pic. From:
Body Pain Area and Pain-Related Negative Affect Predict Clinical Pain Intensity in Patients With Fibromyalgia
Roland Staud,* Donald D. Price,† Michael E. Robinson,‡ and Charles J. Vierck, Jr†
The Journal of Pain, Vol 5, No 6 (August), 2004: pp 338-343
