Controversy abounds over whether People with dyspepsia should have H. pylori colonization treated. Recent article concludes “The main therapeutic strategy for managing dyspepsia in patients under the age of 45 years is ‘test and treat’.   • Over 45 with alarm features (anemia, bleeding, weight loss, recent, progressive and so on) get scoped.
  • Otherwise treatment of any H. pylori infection will lead to “modest yet significant benefit”.

This is an expensive undertaking which our drug plan will not cover – they need to update their policy.

I treat some children for ADHD and find some that get a “coffee stomach” like irritation from Ritalin. In cases that are H. pylori positive, I have found eradication has made use of stimulants possible. Off topic, for those who get headaches on Ritalin, Vitamin B2 is helpful as well.
